Experience the festive magic of Lisbon during the holiday season on a walking tour through the city’s most enchanting streets. Admire the sparkling lights downtown, taste the traditional pastries and drinks, and enjoy the festivities! Starting at the grand Praça do Comércio, we’ll admire the illuminated archways and festive decorations before heading into Baixa, where the aroma of roasted chestnuts fill the air. From there, we stroll to Rossio Square, one of Lisbon’s most iconic gathering places, transformed during the holidays with dazzling lights, festive kiosks. Continuing upward, we pass through the charming district of Chiado, known for its elegant streets, boutique shops, and holiday displays. Our evening continues into Bairro Alto, where we pause in a cozy tavern to enjoy a warming glass of Portuguese mulled wine. The tour concludes in the heart of Lisbon, leaving you perfectly placed to continue the evening with dinner, live Fado music, or simply more time to soak up the city’s Christmas magic.

Festive Lights Show

Watch and listen to an incredible festive lights show in the heart of downtown Lisbon. Let yourself get amazed at the colourful display and holiday spirit around you.

Traditional Holiday Pastries

Enjoy an array of traditional Portuguese pastries and holiday snacks, like roasted chestnuts, and the "sonhos de natal", a light, fluffy, and sugary Portuguese favourite, similar to a donut.

Festive Beverages

Sip on a warm mulled wine while soaking up the festivities. Try a Ginjinha, a local cherry liquor served in a chocolate cup. Warm up with a cup of hot chocolate, perfect for a winter evening.

Convenient Pickup & Drop-off

Meet your guide at a convenient and safe location downtown. Get dropped off in the heart of Lisbon, where your night can continue, or you can easily navigate your way back to your accomodation.

ITINERARY

5:30 PM – Meeting Point – Praça do Comércio
Welcome guests at Lisbon’s grand riverside square. Introduction to Lisbon’s Christmas traditions & history. Quick photo opportunity with the decorated Arco da Rua Augusta
1st stop: Christmas Lights Walk
Walk up Rua Augusta, fully decorated with lights. First tasting: hot roasted chestnuts (“castanhas assadas”) and a glass of the famous ginjinha to warm up.
2nd stop: Christmas Market: Rossio Square
Explore Rossio Square with its illuminated trees, live music and festive kiosks – perfect for your Christmas gift shopping. Stop for Portuguese pastries and a drink — something traditional like the filhós (Christmas fried dough) or sonhos with a coffee, hot chocolate, or mulled wine
3rd stop: Chiado & Largo do Carmo
Stroll through Chiado’s elegant streets, beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. Stop at an artisanal boutique (local ceramics, cork products, and handmade gifts). Pause along the way, admiring the light show in the main street. Stop at Praca de Luis de Camoes to enjoy the Christmas installation. Third tasting: Portuguese Christmas sweets (bolo rei samples from a local bakery)
4th stop: Bairro Alto Festive Drinks
Walk up towards Bairro Alto. Stop in a cozy tavern or wine bar for a Portuguese mulled wine (vinho quente) or a glass of Port wine. Learn about the history of Portuguese Christmas Eve traditions (Consoada dinner, bacalhau, midnight mass).
10:30 PM – Final Walk & Ending in Cais do Sodre
Descend into Cais do Sodre. Enjoy panoramic views of the Christmas lights across Baixa. Wrap up the tour with a sweet ending: rabanadas (Portuguese-style French toast) or king cake. Suggestions for those who want to continue: Fado dinner, rooftop bars, or Wonderland Lisbon.
